Schneiderman lanz\u00f3 una petici\u00f3n el pasado mi\u00e9rcoles para tener acceso a los estados financieros de la petrolera, as\u00ed como sus correos electr\u00f3nicos y otros documentos, seg\u00fan cita el rotativo al mencionar fuentes conocedoras de la investigaci\u00f3n.<br \/>\nLa investigaci\u00f3n abarca las actividades que la empresa ha realizado desde finales de 1970, incluyendo un per\u00edodo de por lo menos una d\u00e9cada, cuando Exxon Mobil financi\u00f3 varios grupos e iniciativas que pretend\u00edan socavar la credibilidad de las pruebas cient\u00edficas sobre el cambio clim\u00e1tico. Un aspecto importante de la investigaci\u00f3n es si la compa\u00f1\u00eda advirti\u00f3 adecuadamente a sus inversores sobre los posibles riesgos financieros derivados de la necesidad de la sociedad de limitar el uso de combustibles f\u00f3siles.<br \/>\nKenneth P. Cohen, vicepresidente de asuntos p\u00fablicos en Exxon Mobil, reconoci\u00f3 el jueves que la compa\u00f1\u00eda ha recibido una citaci\u00f3n judicial y todav\u00eda sopesaba cu\u00e1l ser\u00e1 su respuesta. \u00abRechazamos inequ\u00edvocamente las acusaciones de que Exxon Mobil ha entorpecido las investigaciones sobre el cambio clim\u00e1tico\u00bb, asegur\u00f3 Cohen, quien agreg\u00f3 que la empresa ha financiado estudios cient\u00edficos sobre el tema desde la d\u00e9cada de los 70 adem\u00e1s de haber publicado decenas de art\u00edculos sobre el tema y haber desglosado los riesgos del cambio clim\u00e1tico entre sus inversores. La investigaci\u00f3n que pesa sobre Exxon Mobil podr\u00eda ampliarse y llegar a afectar a otras petroleras, seg\u00fan fuentes familiarizadas con el caso, aunque, hasta la fecha, no haya citaciones adicionales.<br \/>\nPor su parte, el New York Times, que tambi\u00e9n se hizo eco de la investigaci\u00f3n, dijo que la fiscal\u00eda de Nueva York tambi\u00e9n investigan desde hace dos a\u00f1os y de forma paralela a Peabody Energy, el mayor productor de carb\u00f3n del pa\u00eds, por asuntos similares. Dicha investigaci\u00f3n no se hab\u00eda revelado hasta la fecha ya que no ha dado lugar a ning\u00fan cargo concreto en contra de la compa\u00f1\u00eda.
