Escribiendo en el peri\u00f3dico Guardian el 8 de junio, el hombre de negocios africano Andrew Rugasira dec\u00eda que busca lo que todos los empresarios desean: \u00abmercados e igualdad de oportunidades para explotarlos\u00bb.<br \/>\nLo que \u00c1frica necesita, explicaba, es creaci\u00f3n de riqueza, y la mejor forma de hacerlo es en el sector privado. Pero las barreras comerciales en los pa\u00edses m\u00e1s ricos hacen imposible a los pa\u00edses africanos exportar sus mercanc\u00edas.<br \/>\nRugasira sosten\u00eda que si las exportaciones del continente pudieran crecer s\u00f3lo un 1%, esto generar\u00eda unos ingresos de m\u00e1s de 40.000 millones de libras (70.000 millones de d\u00f3lares) al a\u00f1o, un est\u00edmulo mayor del que podr\u00eda esperarse de la promesas de m\u00e1s ayudas, con frecuencia rotas.<br \/>\nEn una l\u00ednea similar, el Guardian del 24 de junio publicaba un comentario de Matthew Lockwood, antiguo cooperante y autor de un nuevo libro sobre \u00c1frica. Defend\u00eda que lo que necesita \u00c1frica es imitar el ejemplo de las econom\u00edas de los tigres asi\u00e1ticos.<br \/>\nObservaba que en 1981 hubo un llamamiento a doblar las ayudas, y que en los a\u00f1os siguientes subi\u00f3 un 130%. En aquellos a\u00f1os, sin embargo, los ingresos cayeron. En algunos casos, la ayuda trajo desarrollo econ\u00f3mico, afirmaba Lockwood. Pero la ayuda sola no es suficiente. Lockwood duda de que confiar en las exportaciones agr\u00edcolas genere suficientes ingresos, incluso si se reducen las barreras comerciales.<br \/>\nLo que necesita hacer \u00c1frica, sosten\u00eda, es diversificar sus econom\u00edas y desarrollar nuevas industrias.
