estudiantes contra la visita de Benedicto XVI a la universidad \u00abLa Sapienza\u00bb, en las que le han acusado de ser enemigo de Galileo, un matem\u00e1tico de origen jud\u00edo ha recordado que el mismo Joseph Ratzinger en esa universidad pronunci\u00f3 una conferencia, en 1990, en su defensa.<\/p>\n<p>La intervenci\u00f3n de apoyo al Papa de Giorgio Israel, profesor de Matem\u00e1tica en esa universidad romana, aparece en un art\u00edculo en la primera p\u00e1gina de \u00abL&#8217;Ossservatore Romano\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>El texto ha sido escrito antes de que la Santa Sede anunciara, tras las protestas &#8211;incluida la ocupaci\u00f3n del rectorado&#8211;, que se ha decidido aplazar la visita papal, prevista para el jueves, aunque enviar\u00e1 el discurso que el pont\u00edfice hab\u00eda preparado.<\/p>\n<p>El matem\u00e1tico recuerda un discurso pronunciado por el cardenal Ratzinger, entonces prefecto de la Congregaci\u00f3n para la Doctrina de la Fe, el 15 de febrero de 1990, en el que explic\u00f3 c\u00f3mo cambi\u00f3 la actitud de la Iglesia en su relaci\u00f3n con la ciencia, y en particular ante el caso Galileo.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abLa fe no crece a partir del resentimiento y del rechazo de la racionalidad\u00bb, dec\u00eda el cardenal.<\/p>\n<p>Israel denuncia la contradicci\u00f3n de quienes se han opuesto a la visita del Papa, te\u00f3ricamente en defensa del valor de la supuesta laicidad de la ciencia, negando sin embargo el derecho a la palabra.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abEs sorprendente que quienes han escogido como lema la c\u00e9lebre frase atribuida a Voltaire -\u00abluchar\u00e9 hasta la muerte para que t\u00fa puedas decir lo contrario de lo que pienso\u00bb&#8211;, se opongan a que el Papa pronuncie un discurso en la universidad de Roma \u00abLa
